L’importante è partecipare/What is important is participating
I bambini, fin da piccolissimi, crescono con la convinzione che l’importante, in una gara, sia partecipare. Alcuni ci cascano, altri no. Alcuni capiscono autonomamente, fin da subito, che la verità non detta dai grandi, è che ciò che conta veramente sia vincere. Se non sempre, almeno di tanto in tanto. Alcuni capiranno che arrivare secondi è come arrivare ultimi. Altri diranno che arrivare terzi non è poi così male. Altri avranno la fortuna di vincere al primo tentativo, senza doversi accorgere di quante volte avrebbero perso più avanti. Certi penseranno che se non vincono, dev’essere per la sfortuna. Poi quelli che si affidano alla statistica, che promette di vincere almeno una volta ogni 10 tentativi. Loro poi, quelli che con scioltezza hanno fatto “una serie di risultati”, non credetegli. E gli ultimi, per cui è tutto organizzato, è tutto già deciso, è tutto un complotto.
La verità? Hanno tutti ragione.
Kids, since their youngest age, grow up with the idea that what is important, in a competition, is just to be participating. Some fall for it, others do not. Some autonomously understand, fast enough, that the truth, unsaid by the grown-ups, is that what really matters is to win. If not always, at least a few times. Some will understand that being second is like being last. Others will tell you that being third is not that bad after all. Others will have the luck of winning on their first try, without having to realize how many times they would have lost afterwards. Some will think that if they do not win, it must be due to a lack of luck. And those who rely on statistics, that promise at least one win every 10th attempt. And then those, those who loosely say that they experienced “a series of results”, do not believe them. Finally, those who think that it is all organized, all is already decided, it is all a conspiracy.
The truth? They are all right.
